Ok....some Randomness

New York, New York

So looking through my pictures from a few days there are a few random things I kind of had to share but not sure which post they belonged to.....so I made this one up. I know, I like to use the word "random" but sometimes it is the only word I can find to describe stuff.
  • May 24, 2009 - If I listen to the commercials and read all the giant advertisements around town Canada is the place to go. Tourism Canada (or whatever they call themselves) are pushing very hard to get people to visit Canada. There are also lots of advertisements to visit Turkey and Brazil and Puerto Rico. Just find it interesting because you don't actually see a lot of advertisements to visit anywhere in the United States.

I like the TV commercial where the couple is dog sledding because we all know dog sledding is an everyday occurrence in most parts of Canada.

  • May 31, 2009 - My trip to see Avenue Q with Steve and Heather renewed my love for live theatre so I wandered over to Times Square one Sunday afternoon to see if I could get cheap tickets to anything. It is an interesting thing to know that by around 1600 (4pm) there is no one left in the TKTS line (you know where you get cheap tickets) but there are still lots of tickets left for Sunday night shows. So I walked up and decided that I would go and see Hair......and it was really, really good.

I knew lots of the music but never knew where it came from. The cast was in and out of the audience and even though I was on the second level.....they spent a lot of time climbing through our seats too. It was a lot of fun. Totally recommend it.

Before I headed in for the show I had to take a picture.

  • May 17, 2009 - Had to share some video of the protest that was down the street from my house (it's on 3rd Avenue and I live about half way between 3rd and Lexington Avenues). They are protesting against Gay marriage. They were very loud and actually were there for most of the day. I found out later they picked this street because the Governor's or Senator's office is just down the street (I don't remember which one, sorry) and they were making a point to him...(although it was Sunday....and he wasn't there). The pro-gay marriage protest was taking place somewhere else in the city. I hear it was just a big and just as loud. I guess traffic did not move very well that day.

They look a little caged in don't they?

  • May 30, 2009 - This motorcade belongs to President Obama. You might remember that he popped into town with Michelle for a "date". Now I am sure there was not as much media coverage in Canada as there was in the US but it apparently was a really big deal. No I did not stand around waiting for him to drive by, I just happened to be walking home after meeting a friend in Times Square, and got stopped. I wasn't there much more than a minute before the motorcade came by. Amazed me how excited everyone on the street was.

Is it just me or does this cop look really unimpressed.
