Ok so a lot of things have happened over the last week or so. I am trying not to forget anything but I am sure I already have.
So we established that my time in Boston was short (but very sweet). Once my contract there ended however I had no place to go. I was unable to secure another contract so I decided this would be a good time to make my first visit to Milton Ontario. In case you are not sure, Milton is the present home of Steve and Heather (my brother and sister-in-law). Dad and I did stop to visit them on my way down to Albany in February but they were still living in a hotel at that point so I had never seen the house......and I have since realized that I did not take a single picture of the house so I cannot even share that with you. My drive from Braintree to Milton was only interrupted with a stop for some gas, a nap and of course Starbucks. Oh and the border, I had to stop there. Then it was just negotiating the confusing highways. I sort of ended up on the 407.....which would get me to Milton, but for those of you who live outside the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), the 407 is also known as the ETR (Electronic toll route). Unlike toll roads in other areas I have been though you have to have a transponder that bills you automatically. You can't stop and pay some guy at a toll booth. A sign said that out-of-province plates are photographed and billed so we shall see if that shows up in the mail at some point.
Anyway, eventually I made it to Milton where I was met with food and drinks (I love Heather) and we had a nice relaxing evening. Steve was still at work so Heather and I had the evening and most of the next day just to relax and hang out. There is a chance we also went shopping.
Once Steve got home the next day, we quickly got ourselves together and made our way into Toronto. To save you from having to look at a map, Milton is about an hour south of Toronto.
Hanging out on the Go-train, which is the commuter rail in the area.
We were heading into the city to watch some baseball (I know you are all super shocked by that). It has been almost 20 years since I had seen the Jays play at home but I must say the only thing about the Skydome that has changed is the name (now known as Rogers Centre) and the prices at the concession (I swear it rivals Yankee stadium prices but I guess I need to take the exchange rate into account). Oh and the view. Back in 1990 when we were here (the whole family), the place was sold out every night and we sat way up in the 500 level. The very sparse crowd. I even waited until later in the game to take this thinking the place would fill up a bit more. I was wrong.
This time around though, there were not that many people there (even with the Red Sox in town) and we sat a little closer (because I got some free tickets and we all know I like to call balls and strikes when I watch a game). Anyways, it was a pretty nice evening.
Our view........just the way I like it.
After the game. Heather and I showing off our gifts from Debi. Just in case you can't read them, Heather is Little Miss Sunshine and I am Little Miss Trouble. Debi just for reference is Little Miss Shy (and I think we all know that is a joke).
The game was really fun.....even though the Jays lost. But Heather and I enjoyed the beer...maybe a little too much (we probably should have had little ones). We were lucky enough to attend another game Saturday afternoon too. Nothing like spending time with family at the ball park.
Ok already I have missed something because I got a job. It turned out by the time I got to Milton, a job became available back at Albany Medical Center (on the unit I had just left 5 weeks ago). Naturally I took it. I enjoyed my time there and actually heading back didn't seem too bad.
So once I got the job my week also turned into getting stuff done so that I could start work. The hospital (not the unit I might add) decided they wanted to be a little difficult but in the end it worked out.
Ok I also hit up a game on Friday night too. That's Brett "The Hitman" Hart, former WWE wrestler who threw out the first pitch.
The night started out very nice but as it cooled down and the clouds rolled in, they closed the roof. Here is the last few moments that I could see the CN Tower from my seat. It takes about 20 minutes for the roof to close. Good thing about a retractable roof.....you're always guaranteed baseball, regardless of the weather.
So my week in the Toronto area included 3 ball games, lots of food, a visit with some of Steve and Heather's friends (and of course Steve and Heather), some hockey (seriously, Steve is playing again), some more shopping and a Canadian beer or two (or three or four but who's counting?). In the end it was a great week, that ended far too soon.
Couldn't resist taking pictures of the Goose Family that had made it's home in a dirty mud hole that had formed in an empty field near Steve and Heather's place. Soon the area will be a nice grass field but not quite yet.
Eventually I made the 6 hour drive back to Albany and promptly moved back into the...wait for it....Extended Stay America. Yes, I am back "home" again. They moved me into the room right next to the one I was in last time. The room is the same except for the upgraded furniture and TV. I can happily now connect a DVD player to it.So as usual a few things have proven themselves to be true. 1) There's nothing better than a few beers at the ballpark 2) Canadian beer is the best EVER!!!! 3) You can always count on family 4) Life isn't always super exciting...sometimes it's just life and 5) Things will always work out in the end.
