So Long Tommi......Happy Travels

Darwin Harbour
Sunday, January 16th, 2011

Well it was time for Tommi to move on and head out to see some more of Australia before he heads back to Finland in a few months. Of course he couldn't leave without a party first. The boys decided to rent a self drive boat and we all headed out on the Darwin Harbour for some fishing and some drinks and some food.

The planning was not so great however because the boat had a maximum capacity of 12 people and somehow 13 people got invited. Turns out when Tommi was inviting people he forgot to count himself. It meant we had to pick Tommi up on the other side of the harbour and he missed the first hour of the cruise. He should probably learn to count a little better but I guess that is what we get for letting the boys do all the planning.

Anyway, the day started off very wet and a little cold (by Australian standards) but little by little the clouds went away and the sun made a short appearance. Here are a few pictures from the day.

The water was pretty calm at this point in the day and eventually those clouds went away and the sun came out for a few minutes.

The whole gang on the boat. Some fishing was attempted but nothing was caught.

Good thing we brought the pork. And it was a GIANT piece of pork. That's Scott cooking it to perfection.

Tommi and Clint.....enjoying a drink....or 2 or 10 but who's counting? This was a major theme for most people on the boat. You will be happy to know we didn't run out of food or drinks.

Deb and Scott enjoying the boat ride.

One of the nice, almost perfectly calm areas we found to hang out in. We were hoping for a croc sighting (well I know Deb and I were) but no such luck. We had to settle for some sea eagles and a few other birds.

The boys also attempted to catch a crab or two. It was also not successful but what can you do.

Eventually our day ended and we had to make our way back towards the wharf to return the boat. Deb got dropped off on the far side of the harbour to pick up the car that Tommi had driven out there in the morning and then we made our way across some very choppy water. It was a bit like a roller coaster.....on water.

It was a great day on the water. The next morning (well probably afternoon) Tommi started the drive south. He will be missed in Darwin but now we have someone to visit in Finland.
