Kate and I had decided a while ago to sign up for another live aboard dive trip this weekend. This one took us to Yanbu for the weekend. A little bit easier of a trip in terms of travel because we can fly directly to Yanbu but a little more complicated for me due to the change in the weekend.
This trip was set before the magical Royal Decree 2 weeks ago so was set for the Thursday/Friday weekend. It was decided however that since most people's weekend was not changing for a few more weeks (businesses were allowed time to adjust schedules and stuff like that....think about our hospital alone had to change all appointments that were on a Saturday to a Thursday. It took some time) so the trip remained the same. It meant I now had to take Thursday off. But all it really did was give me a 4 day weekend so in the end I guess I win!!!
The flight to Yanbu is quick and then it was a really quick transfer to the boat. We managed to get on and settled on the boat in no time at all. We had some dinner, a few briefings and then were well rested when it was time to wake up and get ready to dive.
The next morning didn't seem so early this time around but the day would look the same; 4 dives including one at night. The water is super nice and warm this time of year so it was a very enjoyable trip.
Chris and Kate on our first dive of the day.
Heading down along side the wreck.
Looking up at the wreck. I'm a little deeper than I had planned here but I got slightly distracted by picture taking.
Along the topside of the wreck.
These little clown fish were getting very very close. I think there were baby clown fish (they get very protective) but I couldn't get close enough to see. They're cute but they sure can be mean when they want to be.
Still part of the ship.
The coral and the ship....sometimes hard to tell which is which.
Angel fish. Always in pairs.
It got a little shallow at this part of the reef but there were lots of pretty little fish and colours to look at.
A whole collection of clown fish and other little fish.
He's hiding. I tried to coax him out to get a better picture but these fish always stay in the shadows watching everyone else who swims around. Very cautious little guys.
Hmmm look at this old turtle. I wonder how old he is.
This was Kate's first turtle ever!!! She's had close to 150 dives and finally she sees one. She was pretty excited.
A little video of that amazing turtle. You can see all the barnacles on his back. He has clearly been around a while.
Clown fish. Not sure I've ever mentioned it but I'm super happy with my underwater camera. It wasn't very expensive.....well the underwater housing was, but I find it takes pretty good pictures. Just love the colours.
Lots of little fish all over the place.
More clown fish. I think you know by now that I really love them.
Lots of little fish.
A few more little fish.
After our 3 daylight dives we waited for the sun to go down and then got back into the water for our night dive.
Not a camera trick.....it really is this dark outside of where your light is shining.
Friday morning I again decided to skip the early morning dive but waited until the afternoon and did a little snorkeling....and sun tanning and relaxing. The boat ride back was a bit of an adventure. I made the mistake of having a shower just as we started to get moving. The ride was a little bit rough.... I fell over a few times. I also got a little sea sick and decided to lay down for the rest of the ride. It turned out I was not the only one feeling the ride. Our bunks were on the lower level but I went upstairs at one point to grab my charging phone, only to find the rest of the travellers laid out on the floor....most of them looking pretty green. I could barely walk the ride was so rough. I have to say we were all very happy to get back to dry land.
Even with the rough ride, it was a great weekend diving.
