Today was set to be a bit more of a relaxed day. Jeff had to go to work and it has felt like the last few days have been very busy so it was a nice change of pace this morning. It started with a bit of a sleep in and then a nice leisurely stroll to the local Starbucks. There I planned my route to a few of the art museums in the area and mostly just planned on wandering around a bit.
I took some time in two museums. Neither of them opened until noon which allowed for my slow start but still enabled me to take my time in the museums. The first was the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba). No pictures inside this museum but actually is a pretty large and well designed space. Mostly art from the 19th and 20th century, from both Latin American and North American artists, I would recommend it if you ever find yourself in Buenos Aires with an hour or two to kill. Oh and entrance fee at the time was less then 5USD which is hard to beat.
My next stop as just down the street at the Museo Nacional de Belles Artes. Entrance is free to this museum and I would recommend a visit. It was very interesting and very enjoyable. I was allowed to take pictures so here are a few.
This is Antonio Berni's Manifesacion (translated: Public Demonstration). It is dated 1934.
This is Ernesto Deira's work called Boceto para 9 variaclones sobre unbastidor blen tensado (translated: Sketch for 9 Variations over well-stretched canvas).....I think I like the Spanish version better.
It is dated 1966 and I think this picture gives you an idea how big it really is.
Looking through one of the art pieces at one of the galleries in the museum. It looks like a piece of glass but it is in fact a piece of work titled 35 lentes (35 lens) dated 1968. The artist is Rogelio Polesello.
This one creeped me out a bit. I think it's the eyes. This is Exclusion (no translation needed) by Pablo Suarez. It is a little bit newer than the other pieces, dated 1999.
I spent the rest of the afternoon I just kind of wandered around seeing what Monday morning had to offer. It was really nice and relaxing and really is a cool city.
This is the other side of the Ministry of Health Building from my previous post. A very iconic image of Eva Peron.
Eventually I made my way back to Jeff's place and we met up with Vanessa and Shuri for dinner. This was Shuri's last night in Argentina as he was heading back to Japan later that night. We had a nice quiet dinner at a pizza place just around the corner from Jeff's place.
Looking down from the dinner table.
Eventually we had to say goodbye to Shuri and Vanessa headed back to her hostel for the night. Our little posse got smaller by one. Sadly tomorrow would be our final night together....but not to worry, we had big plans.
