Fun in the Harrisburg Snow

Well it hasn’t snowed here for about 24 hours yet they are still trying to remove the snow. Some of the major interstates are still closed, kids haven’t been to school in days and I still can’t make a snowman because the snow may look like snow but really it is more like ice.

This week I finally got to experience some east coast winter. Really I guess we were doing okay until the frozen rain (and when I mean frozen rain I mean small shards of ice falling from the sky). Snow I like but frozen rain I do not. I spent Wednesday digging my car out of parking lots (first I got ploughed in the parking lot at work and they had to dig me out so I could go home, then I got stuck in the unploughed parking lot at my apartment building and had to dig it out so that I could park and then I got re-ploughed in after I had dug it out and had to re-dig it out so that I could go back to work that night). It really has been fun. (Some girls actually slept at the hospital to avoid driving home in the snow…it is has been quite interesting to say the least).

They have finally cleared the parking lots at home and at work and the road that I need to take to get to work but the rest of the city is up in the air. The back hoes and snow-blowers have been out like crazy and large piles of snow have been showing up everywhere so by Monday most people may be able to get their cars out and maybe they will open the schools. The temperature should go back above zero (that's 32 F) in the next couple of days so I have been told I now get to look forward to another Harrisburg tradition……flash flooding.
