Yes, today was the Men's Gold Medal game at the Olympics and yes I did have to work, but as the title of this post suggests.....I didn't miss the goal.
Of course I have to call it the biggest goal of my lifetime because many will argue that the goal scored by Paul Henderson against the Soviets in the 1972 Summit Series was bigger on a hockey......and political level. I may actually agree with you. But not all of us were around in 1972 so the Crosby goal is the biggest of my lifetime.
Heather had been doing a very good job of keeping me updated with all the games. So glad we both have Blackberries. I got moment by moment updates even though sometimes I could only check every 30 minutes or so. But I did manage to find a patient who was watching the game.....he did threaten to have me deported when I walked into his room dressed like a giant Canadian flag but he was a good sport and let me stay and watch. I managed to catch most of the 3rd period and all of the overtime so in my opinion I saw the best part of the game.
What you can't see is the red pants and the white shoes.
I assure you everyone on the unit heard me yell when Crosby scored and the celebration lasted most of my shift. I have to say I think all my patients were happy that the game was over and that we won because I was not very focused on patient care before that. A very exciting game and a great way to end the Olympics. When I finally got home from work I caught a replay of the Closing Ceremony. Always sad to see the Olympics end. What am I suppose to watch on TV now?
