Last year as I was preparing to head to Australia for work and play, I took a day to take an English proficiency exam so that I could get my Australian Nursing registration. Yes that's right, I had only spoken the language my whole life, completed a Bachelor's degree in the language and spent the previous 5 years working as a nurse in English but I still had to sit of for the exam. I was totally irritated by that, not just because it cost me $180 but also because it cost me a day of my life (I've probably discussed this with some of you already). Just in case I hadn't mentioned it before, I received a perfect score of 9 and now have a piece of paper stating that I have an expert grasp on the English language. Perfect.
Well today I am happy to announce that the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has come to their senses and is no longer requiring that applicants who have received 5 years of higher education in English (in certain English speaking countries) to sit for the exam. If only I could get my money back.
Anyway, won't make a difference to me but I just love it when stupid requirements are corrected.
