Looking Back

September 16, 2008

Well as I finish my final preps for my 3 month adventure in Europe I have taken a few minutes to reflect back on my 2 years living and working in the United States. Here are few thoughts:

Things I missed about Canada while living in the US:

1. Money that is different colours
2. People who know how to drive in snow
3. Diplomacy
4. Alexander Keith’s (beer), Glosette raisins, Hawkins Cheezies, Smarties (real smarties) and Ruffles All-Dressed chips
5. People who know what a touque is
6. Reading things in English and French

Things I miss about the US now that I am back in Canada:

1. Real radio stations
2. Cheaper gas (a lot cheaper)
3. People who know how to drive….fast
4. Appropriate speed limits ( 100 Km/H is just too slow now)
5. Properly maintained highways

Things I didn’t miss about Canada:
1. Music by any one even remotely connected with Canadian Idol
2. Rocks flying at my car as I drive down the highways
3. Stupid people

Things I won’t miss about the US:
1. Four tier health care
2. Dollar bills (seriously give me a loonie over a paper bill any day)
3. Stupid people

Of course no matter where I am there will always be friends and family left behind who I will always miss and these lists can get bigger and smaller depending on the day. So the next question is “What’s next?” Well of course there is the 3 months in Europe and then…..well I have no idea but ask me when I get back.
