Off to the Ball......Now Where is Prince Charming?

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

November/December is ball season in Riyadh.....and no I don't mean baseball....I mean ball ball.....as in dancing. Like everything else however invites and tickets are not that easy to come by. However, Lola is a member of the English Society and I got invited to The Jingle Ball as her plus one.

That meant a new dress (which I bought while back in Canada) and some time in the salon chair to get my hair done.

Working through the process of getting my hair all nice........totally straight.

I never use to like my hair straight but it turns out I do like it like this.....you will be seeing it again. This was not to to be the finished product though.

Here is the finished product......curls.....just not my curls.

And the dress.Worth every penny although I probably need to wear it a few times.

The British embassy is like many where you are not allowed to bring your cameras in but as always they had a professional photographer taking pictures for us.

Prince Charming is that you? No, it's not....in fact Lola and I still are not sure who this guy is but some how we all ended up in a picture together. Balls at the British....always a friendly affair.

They do let us bring our phones in but ask us not to take pictures.......we snuck this one while in the bathroom.

Balls at the British Embassy involve a full 5 course meal.....that was absolutely amazing!!! Every course was so good. And all the food and alcohol are included in your ticket price so it was a very good night. I even managed to find a cigar bar (yes I still enjoy smoking the occasional cigar), however the guy selling was very particular about the ones he would sell me because apparently only some cigars are appropriate "for a lady" (insert eye rolling here).

After dinner they opened up the dance floor. We were told that the party ended at midnight.....but when Lola and I left just before 0100, the party was still going.

We left with some very nice gifts as well. The tables were decorated with some beautiful Christmas centre pieces. We figured they were just going to be thrown out at the end of the night so Lola and I helped ourselves to a few. Trust me, we weren't the only ones.

Nothing like getting dressed up for a ball.

In short my first ball was a total success.

Here's hoping there will be a few more in my future.

Julie
