Still February 14th....But on the Other Side of the World

Buenos Aires, Argentina
Friday, February 14th, 2014

Finally having arrived in Argentina, I made my way through immigration, to a cash machine and to a taxi. I was heading to my friend Jeff's place. In case it isn't mentioned somewhere else, I met Jeff in Riyadh when he was working for the Canadian Embassy. He then got moved to Buenos Aires, where he decided he wanted to go to Antarctica. He put out some invitations, (to join him on the trip to Antarctica). Myself and our friend Pete signed up quickly. Unfortunately Pete had to pull out but I was still good and ready to make the trip. I would have a day to get settled in Buenos Aires before making the trip South and hopping on the boat to Antarctica.

Jeff is a very prepared individual so he sent me very good Google map instructions on how to direct the taxi to his place. Turns out it is really easy to find and in a very nice part of town. As you can imagine my body was a little mixed up but Jeff allowed me enough time to shower and unpack a little before we headed out to find some food (very considerate of him). Good food was certainly something I was looking forward to on this trip. While you can find pretty much any type of food you can imagine in Riyadh, the quality of that food...well let's just say you take what you can get.

We hit up this great little restaurant called Green Bamboo and then we had planned to head to the Casino. On the way we heard from great live music so followed the noise to see what we could find. We found the music at this little place called Jalapena, a small little place with a huge atmosphere. We were really enjoying the music and dancing but were really curious about it. Jeff (who speaks fluent Spanish) finally asked and it seems we had stumbled upon some great traditional Argentinian folklore.

Just a little taste of the music that night.

Eventually we headed home (about 0300). I was pretty tired but safe to say my first night in Argentina was fantastic.
