The delaRocha Brothers

New York, New York
Sunday, July 5, 2009

Ok I know what you are thinking...who are these delaRocha brothers and why do they get a blog entry? They are just these guys I met on a subway (yes, I do talk to strangers, yes I do know better, but none us should be surprised by now. Plus since I continue to move to cities where I know no one...everyone is technically a stranger.) They get a blog entry because...well they just kind of need one (I am sure people will thank me for inflating their egos later).

From left to right: Michael, David, Andy and Juan (the youngest...can you tell?)
See, they look nice right? Ok, you have to look passed the fact that they're Yankees fans (and we all know that's hard for me). You take away they Yankee shirts and they are just 4 strange guys I met on the New York subway.....oh wait, that doesn't make it sound any better.

So yeah I met them on the subway. They were causing some trouble (Yankees fans...it's what they do) so naturally I got drawn in by it (Jays fans....it's what we do......ok maybe it's just what I do). So my planned wandering and last minute shopping (I really needed....ok wanted new shoes) was derailed by these guys who ended up abducting me......or inviting me (I don't really remember how it all went down) and so I ended up in Little Italy at some restaurant. I do know the name....but only because of the picture I took.

See the restaurant (I could find it again...if I really had to) And yes Andy is holding a giant pile of cups that he collected at the ball park. You know that guy who walks through a bunch of the seats and picks up other peoples' souvenir cups.....that's Andy. I would say that touching all those strangers' cups is gross but let's face it, I'm a nurse and gross is a relative term. I'm just happy when it's in the cup and I don't have to pick it up off the floor.

Anyway, there were some drinks (got a complete rundown on what gin I should be drinking.....at least I had the gin part right), some dinner (good Italian.....always good) and some Cuban cigars......oh wait, that's not right. Ok, there were cigars but I assure you they weren't Cuban (yes, I occasionally smoke cigars.....a habit I picked up in Cuba).

My new goal this summer to obtain one of these signs from Yankee Stadium and harass people on the street with it. If Juan can do it...so can I.

And that's my (version) of the story. In the end people got home late (not me....I live in Manhattan), trains were missed (totally not my fault) and I have another random NYC memory to share with everyone.

I love this city.

Julie
