Back On the Road and Welcoming the New Year

Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Saturday, December 31 to Monday, January 2nd, 2012

I headed to Calgary for a few days to celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends. My friends Mikey and McKinnis (you may remember they got married on New Year’s Eve 2 years ago) hosted a Red Carpet party….which meant we all had to get dressed up very nice. I was not prepared for that (and neither was Laura) so we decided to hit up Value Village to see if we could find some unflattering dresses and see if we could win Worst Dressed. We couldn’t find anything as bad as we wanted and we actually didn’t look that bad.

Laura and I getting all dressed up.

New Year's usually expains itself but here are a few pictures from the night.

One of our gracious hosts, Mikey, all dressed up and looking fine. Top hats are always a perfect finishing touch on any outfit.

Laura, Ericka and Me. This was early in the evening......the best time to take pictures.

Laura and I showing off our dresses. Yes I know mine is see through down the side. It's part of the joke.

Starting with the pink dress that's Jenn, then Devon, then our other gracious host, McKinnis.

My (often) partner in crime, Vanessa. It's probably a good thing we don't live in the same country.

That's Jenn again.

Devon......before she finished the very strong gin and tonic I made for her.

That's Karole and Mikaela. I went to nursing school with both of them......haven't really seen them since. The night was kind of like a reunion. Mikaela went a totally differnt route with her outfit. She dressed up as a TMZ cameraperson. In case you are not familiar with TMZ.......they're paparazzi.

That's Joe (Laura's husband) and Devon.......after she finished the very strong gin and tonic I made for her......as well as a few other drinks.

As usual it was a fabulous night and we all felt horrendous the next day……..evidenced by the fact that not only did we go to McDonalds but I managed to eat 2 cheeseburgers, a medium fries and about 6 chicken McNuggets……they were so good.

Early Monday morning, Joe drove me to the airport so I could make the next step of my journey. As always my time in Calgary was too short and there were a ton more people I wanted to see that I just couldn’t. I’ve said it before and I will say it again….. I’ll catch you all next time I’m in town.

For now, I’m on my way to Toronto.

Julie
