All over British Columbia
So you must have figured out from the title of this blog that I moved around a little bit this past weekend. It all started at about 4:30 am (1:30am PST) at Laguardia Airport in New York. Of course I didn't need to be there that early because Air Canada never opens their desks before 5:00am......and of course I knew that but my insane need to always arrive at airports super early totally took over. Anyways, eventually they opened, and I got on plane number one...which took me to Toronto. There, I slept for a bit before boarding plane number two, which took me to Vancouver. I assume it was a good flight but as you probably have guessed...I slept the whole way. I did try to watch Star Trek.....several times but it just didn't work out. Anyway, once I got to Vancouver, I remember eating and then boarding plane number three, which took me to Kelowna.
At least there was some prettiness flying over the mountains.
It was only a short little flight but let's try to remember that I actually had to fly over Kelowna to get to Vancouver and then fly back so it was just really annoying.I hate little planes. If I can see the propeller I know it is not going to be a fun flight. Good thing I sleep a lot on planes.
I eventually did land in Kelowna at around 2:14pm PST (that's 5:15pm on the east coast) so as you can see I had already spent half a day travelling. From there it was to Mom and Dad's house for some repacking of the suitcases, a meal, some sleep and then Thursday morning I woke up bright and early, hopped in my car at around 4:50am and headed back to......Vancouver (yes I know I was just there).....well Horseshoe Bay to be more correct to catch a ferry. I just missed the 10:00am ferry...but I did manage to catch the 10:40 ferry. After a nice hour and half sleep on the ferry I arrived in Nanaimo and from there made the short drive to my final destination Qualicum Beach.
Now that I have explained by extensive 2 days of travel, maybe I should go back and explain the reason why I was making this trip in the first place. If you haven't figured it out from my title I was heading to Vancouver Island for a Wedding. I also happened to be the Maid of Honour in this Wedding so it was an exciting trip. The wedding belonged to my friend Crystal Webb (now Vezina). We worked together right out of school and I went to Cuba with her family back in 2005 (so long ago) so it was not just a happy reunion with Crystal but with her family as well. (Doug.....her now husband was not in the picture at the time).
Anyway, I guess you never really know how much work it takes to put on a wedding until you are part of putting on a wedding. Of course I actually had very little to do but the stuff I did have to do was a little taxing. There was food to prepare and decorating to do. We did take some beer/wine drinking breaks as well. There were 2 very busy days leading up to the Wedding itself on Saturday but it wasn't all work....after all it was a celebration so we tried to have some fun as well.
After I arrive on Thursday and the tent arrived and the dishes arrived we headed to the wedding location for a pre-rehearsal rehearsal just to make sure Friday's rehearsal would go smoothly. Once that was done it was time for the boys and girls to separate for the night and have a little bit of fun.
Ok the boys started their party before we left but they were hungry. From left to right we have Brendan (the best man), Doug (the groom), Cory (brother of the bride) and Randy (father of the bride).
The girls.... Me, Sharon (mother of the groom), Crystal (the bride of course), Crystal's Gramma, Jenny (Crystal's mom) and Christie (Crystal's sister-in-law). We played some games, we had some drinks, we ate some pizza.....it was a lot of fun.
Ok, so all the fun and games of Thursday night had to come to an end and as Friday rolled around there was a lot to do. There was decorating and fruit/veggie trays to prepare and other stuff to arrange (it is all kind of blurry but it all got done) and then of course there was the official rehearsal.
The beautiful backdrop that hosted the Wedding Ceremony. Yeah it was pretty amazing.
Ok so maybe I didn't take the rehearsal as seriously as I should have, but I didn't mess up the Wedding so no worries.
Once the rehearsal was over and we all knew where to stand and when to walk we had a very casual and very relaxed evening meet and greet at the local Rotary Hall. The Wedding was very small (around 30 guests.........give or take a few) but many of us had never met so it was a good opportunity to get introduced to everyone.
Man those are some professional looking trays. I wonder who helped put those together. I'll give you a hint.....it was me.
Ahhhh classic Christie.
Crystal and I look pretty relaxed tonight. I think by this point there was not much more we could do so I guess there was no reason to get uptight.
Of course casual relaxed Friday turned into busy Saturday or the Wedding day. Who knew how long it took to get hair done!!!
Just starting to get all those curls together. It turned out really good.
Yes there were lots of curls to be fixed on my head too. Maybe too much but I liked how it turned out so no complaints.
The ceremony itself was very short....just the way Crystal and Doug wanted it, and other than Doug saying "I don't" when he was suppose to say "I do" it was perfect, the reception was great and it was certainly worth the trip.
Here are a few more pictures from the event. Yes there are a lot of pictures of me, and it wasn't my wedding but we have discussed this before....this is my blog so it is all about me.
The dress. So glad it was just Crystal and I who had to decide. We both had similar ideas and I loved the colour. I can't complain at all.
With the Wedding Car.
Again with the Wedding car. This was a great backdrop for a lot of pictures.
See I am a good Maid of Honour....trying to keep that dress of the ground.
My purse, my shoes, my toes.......I love living in New York.
Yes the cupcake cake. I only provided minor efforts in the decorating but I did a great job with the eating. These little guys kept me hang-over free!!!
